Slow Stitching and Mending at NCSU Crafts Center

No sewing experience required. Learn the time honored Japanese Sashiko techniques to mend and repair damaged textiles. You are encouraged to bring an article of clothing to repair or embellish. If you don’t have an item of clothing to bring you can practice on swatches, learn to work with your coveted fabric scraps to turn them into beautiful art. Students will learn hand stitching techniques inspired by Japanese Boro visible mending and Sashiko (Japanese embroidery). Choose from the instructor’s wide range of hand dyed fabric samples to create a small Slow Stitch Sample. This is the perfect time to sit down and set your hands to a meaningful task. A $35 materials fee, payable to instructor on first day of the workshop, includes hand sewing needles, Sashiko thread, embroidery hoop, Sashiko stitching handouts,hand dyed fabric scraps, etc.
